Dry Winter Spring

dry skin dry winter

it’s been a dry season

coming to the surface now

hot air balloons rise in the distance

spring is here and

no mud in sight, clean shoesdry winter spring

cracked lip cracked skin

all those years, parched

and homeostasis still

this season is this one, now

part of the whole, of the All

perhaps a bouquet of choices

among what is choice-less

looking below the surface

and beyond the markers of time

and where I stand, sitting

still or actively creating

amidst it all, amidst all

As the All, the all that I am

cannot help but be that

dry skin, cracked lip

paired dance, two step three

forward back, circling

hot air rises, takes up wing

single piano melody and cadence

joined by a symphonic chorus

that I see all around me

Another season will be

will be what it is then

even now that season emerges

Apparent in ways not yet visible

the tear running down the face

surfaces after long held heart

Cracking a smile has other allies

even if only there under the skin

opens out and then returns quietly

like a breeze scattering seeds

that would otherwise reside

close in, close by where they fall

singing of loss beneath the breath

keeps the flowers ready to blossom

their scent barely contained and rising

crispness of air, spirit, sight, and earth (heart)

such ways sing brightness of their own

elegy only for nostalgia alone

Sacred Seed Sacred Song

Sacred Seed Sacred Song clear:drawings

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Sacred Seed with this poem, SACRED SEED SACRED SONG, which the title of my first poetry book came from. This poem was written 21 years ago and first self-published 20 years ago by Wild Fig Tree Press.

flesh and bones chill and rejoice

chill and rejoice

duet of northwesterly lapping waves

skins of ancient water and stone

meeting along the chorus line of ocean shore

a deep quartet rises in tones

of amber, heather, ruby, and ice

folding into a quintet of pounding heart chambers

opening, releasing to the verses

of the whole heart womb

alive

lay down in the circle of visions yet told

the mapping emerges in traces

of salt, ash, sand, and root hairs

veins of crimson and cobalt,

silver and gold

a calling, leading raptor release on high

as ruby-throated friends hover and feed

hover and feed

on honey blood nectar

the coiling, spiraling, glistening core

double strands of earth and sky

earth and sky

moonlight, sunlight, starlight, home

earthly seeds sing sweetly of winter rains

tentacled threads tying fast

fluid colors richly layering ebb and flood

ebb and flood

tide lines becoming score lines

faceted voices touch and hold

touch and hold

Crowning Glory

I step out barely
— into the sky as
the crowning glory
of all things myself
and not myself

For I find myself
within and between
and without these
wings, one of not
and one of all

Frighteningly so
at first but the lift
gathers and throws
me into the vastness
of this blue ocean

Learning to swim
in the sky of my Being
and not run or flee
but fly as I am
— crowning glory

My roots are freed
riding the currents
along with all that
once fettered me
when I looked down

Meeting these fresh
forces –alighting like
quantum treasures of
that which we Are
sharing now this Crack

Into that fabric of plane
existence shocking me
free of that pondering
wasteland –all that binds
and frets now scours forth

A Song of the unfolded
mystery of the most plain,
dry only of sorrows once
passed over and now
absorbed, dancing as Lift

Within and beneath
these transparent wings
blue as the sky clear as
diamonds polished by
the heart of hearts once
and only always free
